Best places to visit in matheran in winter part 2

Hi guys, I hope you read our Matheran part 1 blog. In that blog, I tell the best places to visit in Matheran and gave information about some points. So in this blog, I will tell about some other points but before looking at the rest of the points, I will give a little different information about Matheran in this blog.

The town of Matheran was founded by the British. In 1850, an English officer named Mallet was the Collector of Thane. He saw this mountain from Chowk village. He was also a trekker, so he was attracted to this mountain. He liked the place a lot after he trekked and he built a house here and following him, his friends, family, and the British settled in Matheran. Matheran toy train was built between 1901 and 1907 by Abdul Hussein Adamjee Peerbhoy.

There are many hotels and resorts in Matheran but some are costly and some are cheap. In my opinion, If you are going with friends so you can take cheap hotels and cheap hotels are also give good facilities to customers. In Monsoon, Matheran’s temperature is in the range of 21 to 27 degrees Celsius. It rains a lot here in the monsoon so you can keep an umbrella or raincoat with you.

Alexander Point

Alexander point is 5 minutes away from Matheran Market. You can start your second day from Alexander Point as you get a beautiful view of the sunrise here in the morning.  If Sunset point is the best to point to see sunset then Alexander point is the best one to see the sunrise. There are tea shops and some snack shops where you can do your breakfast.

Rambaug Point

A little further from Alexander Point, you come to Rambaug Point. The distance between these two points is only 3 minutes. The road to Rambaug Point is through the forest and it is very scenic. There would not be a crowd and you would hear different birds’ sounds. You will be mesmerized by the different sounds of birds and here you can relax for a while.

Chowk Point

After experiencing the sounds of beautiful birds at Rambaug Point, you will proceed to Chowk Point or Little Chowk Point. You can get here in 15 minutes. You can see beautiful views of Morbe Dam and Chowk village from Chowk Point. There are some food stalls here so you can eat from time to time but beware of monkeys, they can snatch food from your hand.

Belvedere Point

This Point gives a pretty view of Matheran valley. Belvedere Point is at a distance of 20 min from Chowk Point. Here you can do adventure activities and photography. You can see One tree Hill Point from Belvedere point but you have to climb harder to get there. Looking south to Belvedere Point, you will see Irshalgad and to the northwest, you will see Prabalgad, also known as Prabal Machi. For these forts, you have to do trekking and for that, you have to give a full day. There is a small waterfall on Belvedere Point.

Charlotte lake and Pisaranath Mahadev Mandir

The lake is at a distance of about 1 to 1.5 km from the market and 3 km from Belvedere Point. There is the valley on one side of the lake and the jungle on the three sides. This view looks beautiful. This is the main reservoir of water on Matheran. During the monsoons, the reservoir begins to overflow. This makes the waterfall look very beautiful.  If you want to have a good evening in another season then charlotte lake is the best place.

There is a temple of Lord Shiva near Charlotte Lake, the name of that temple is Pisaranath Temple. Pisaranath is the village deity of Matheran and is an ancient self-contained temple. After to go in the temple you feel merry.

Lords Point

After a short walk of 5 to 10 minutes from the temple, you reach Lord Point. At this point, there is the facility to show beautiful views from a telescope and you can see some good views from Lords Point. In the mansion, you can see many waterfalls from Lords Point and you will feel that you have come to heaven. This point is near Charlotte Lake and Pisaranath Temple.

King George Point

We saw good views at Lord’s Point now next point is King George Point and you reach King George Point in 15 minutes from Lord Point. This point is famous for photography. Here you get to see the awesome panoramic view and also you can see Kalavantin Durg from this point. Kalavantin Durg attracts many trekkers because this fort is famous for trekking and hiking. If you are going to stay here for more days, then you can go on a trek. There are two more Points near George’s point but the views look the same so you can ignore those points.

Echo Point

Echo Point is on the way from Louisa Point to Charlotte Lake. Due to the huge sloping wall in front of it, an echo can be heard when sound is made. The point is surrounded by a protection fence. From this point, many waterfalls can be seen during the monsoon season. There is a snacks stall at the point for refreshments. You can also take a horse ride to reach any point easily.

Malang Point

Malang Point is at a distance of 30 min from Echo Point. You will have to walk hard to get here, but you will lose all the tiredness. once you get here There is a facility to show nature by telescope. After enjoying this place for a while, you can move on to the next point.

Louisa Point

Louisa Point is one of the prime viewpoints of Matheran which provides beautiful views of the surrounding area. It will take 20 min to reach Louisa Point from Malang Point. This is a great spot for eye-catching views of the sunset, surrounding mountains, and lush greenery. You can see many other points near Louisa Point, which are Honeymoon Point, Edward Point, Coronation Point.

Khandala Point

You can visit this point on the last day of your trip because Khandala Point is near to Matheran market. This point is 1 km far from the Matheran market. You can see Garbett Point from Khandala Point and to reach Garbett Point you need to do trekking. A little further from this point you will see a beautiful view of Dom Lake.

You can also do shopping here. You can go shopping on the last day of your trip. There are lots of things which you can buy in Matheran, but some of them are famous here like

  • Dried Wildflowers
  • Local Honey
  • Chikki
  • Leather Product like Purse, Belt, etc
  • Kolhapuri Chappal.
