Widely considered one of the best Test batsmen and best opening batsmen in Test cricket history. Gavaskar set world records during his career for the foremost Test runs and most Test centuries scored by any batsman. He held the record of 34 Test centuries for nearly 20 years before it had been broken by Sachin Tendulkar in December 2005.

He was the primary person to get centuries in both innings of a match 3 times. He was the primary Test batsman to score 10,000 Test runs during a career and now stands at number 12 on the group of 13 players with 10,000-plus Test runs.

After missing the primary Test because of an infected fingernail, Gavaskar scored 65 and 67 not go into the second Test in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, hitting the winning runs which gave India its first-ever win over the West Indies.

In 1985–86, India toured Australia, playing against a team during a poor form slump. He scored an unbeaten 166 in the First Test in Adelaide and 172 within the Third Test in Sydney, ending the series with 352 runs at 117.33.  In 1986–87, Gavaskar’s final season in Test cricket, India faced an extended season of 11 home Tests.

A few days later, he scored his first century in international cricket against West Indies. He took 100 wickets and 1000 runs in his first 25 matches and became the first Indian to do this record.

He was good in leadership skills, so he was given the captaincy of the Indian team against Shri Lanka for the first time in 1882. But the real challenge they faced was the World Cup because Kapil Dev was the new captain. In the 1883 World Cup, no one considered India as the main contender but the Indian team proved them wrong and won the World Cup under the leadership of Kapil Dev.

Kapil Dev scored 175 runs versus Zimbabwe at a very crucial time. After this World Cup, Kapil Dev was included as the key player of the team. He took retirement in 1994. In his career, he scored 6,215 runs in 99 test matches and 9,378 in 334 matches. He was a good player in his career but was found in match fixing in 2000.

Azharuddin was at the end of his career when he was found guilty of fixing the match and then he was banned from the team. South African captain laugher kraonje accused him of fixing the match when the Indian central bureau of Investigation found him guilty in his report. This ban was imposed on November 8, 2012, by Andhra Pradesh High Court. He was awarded the Arjuna Award 1986 and the Padma Shri in 1988. Based on his life, came across a cinema named ‘Azhar’ in May 2016.

Then came the year 2000 when the shadow of match fixing was hovering over the Indian team and when no one was taking over the captaincy, Sourav Ganguly came forward and was made the captain.
