The international cricket council given the guidelines for how to make cricket pitch using that guidelines the cricket pitch is manufactured. The pitch is either artificial or natural made by soil. As per the rules the pitch is 22yd (20.12m) long and 10ft (3.05m) wide.

The pitch plays an important role in match result. When pitch is dusty then the pitch is useful for the spinners and not more runs are score in such pitch. If the pitch is covered by some grass the pitch is useful for the seam bowlers for bowling. Because of the grass ball bounces from the pitch. When pitch is flat this lots of runs are scored in match. Professional specification non turf cricket pitches are required to be completed with a dynamic base. This is a more complex and expensive base due to the different layers and the time requirements to build. Each wicket must reach a standard required.

Following the creation of a 40cm depth twin aggregate base with a number of membranes, shock padding is laid and a top woven surface carpet is fixed, pinning in the under shock padding. Additional areas surrounding the padded shock carpet are competed in standard 14mm PVC turf.

The dynamic base required creates as best as possible a cricket surface close to natural grass. This method allows expansion and contraction of the surface in order to recreate play in different temperatures and weather conditions.

Natural pitch is made of soil. The pitch is made by red soil which is responsible for batting pitch or flat pitch like wankhede stadium second is made of black soil. Which is useful for the bowlers.

Protected area:-

The main part of the pitch is protected. Area the protected area is of 2 feet wide and 5 feet from popping crease from both batting and bowling side. In this area ball bounces normally. The  protected area there are restrictions for bowlers and batsman’s. in which they could not run from protected area during match to preserve fairness in game.

In case in any bowler runs on protected area during follow-through the umpires gives warning to the bowlers for it. 2 warnings are given to the bowlers after 2 warnings if bowler again runs from protected area then bowler suspended from the innings and after that bowler are not eligible for bowling in that match.

If batsman runs on protected area then also umpires gives warning to the batsman for 2 times after that the penalty given to the team. In penalty the extra 5 runs given to the opposite team.

Covering & protecting the pitch:-

Manufacturing the pitch is important as well as coveing and protecting the pitch is also important. Grounds man take care of pitch from manufacturing to the covering and protecting the pitch. The pitch is covered by the equipment’s for protection from rain and dew. In some times the pitch is protected from the sun light. From sun light the cricket pitch is cracked. The life of the pitch is reduced that’s why the covering pitch is important.

Rolling the pitch:-

The pitch is rolled before the match or before the innings to maintain the hardness of the pitch. By this the ball bounces fairly from the pitch. The pitch is rolled before the 7 min of the innings. This decision of the rolling on pitch is totally on the on the batting side captain. The rolling cannot be done during the innings. The rolling is done before the innings and before 7 mins.

Sweeping:-

Before a pitch is rolled it is first swept to avoid any possible damage caused by rolling in debris. The pitch is also cleared of any debris at all intervals for meals, between innings and at the beginning of each day. The only exception to this is that the umpires do not allow sweeping to take place where they consider it may be detrimental to the surface of the pitch

Mowing a pitch:-

Mowing a pitch is process to reduce the grass from the pitch. This useful for the maintain the health of the pitch and the fairness of the game.

Footholds:-

The footholds is made by bowlers during follow-through. Sometimes it is made also by the batsman. This footholds are covered as possible as to safe and secure.

Practicing on the field:-

The guidelines don’t permit players to work on bowling or batting on the pitch, or on the zone equal and promptly nearby the pitch, whenever on any day of the match. Practice on a day of a match on some other piece of the cricket square may happen just before the beginning of play or after the end of play on that day and must stop 30 minutes before the planned beginning of play or if inconvenient to the outside of the square.

 

Pitch condition:-

Before the match the umpires decide that pitch is eligible for playing game or not

 

Drop in pitch:-

Drop in pitch is same as the natural pitch.  Only difference is that the natural pitch is made as on the field and the drop in pitch is made outside of the field. And after that placed in field using equipment’s.
